Content descriptions

Summary, etc.: Not knowing that it would change his life completely, drifter Jared Kane saved a man he found dying in the desert. Kane soon learned that Foulard, the rescued man, was obsessed with one goal—to get his hands on a fortune in buried gold bars. Foulard needed help in his quest, however, since he was without food, water, horse, tools, or gun. Suspicious of the stranger, yet tempted by the lure of gold, Kane agreed to accompany Foulard to the town of Armijos, near Santa Fe, where the treasure was reportedly hidden. The two warily established friendly relations and devised a plan to dig for the gold unobtrusively. Then the complications set in. Not only was Foulard being pursued by a dangerous enemy who claimed that the treasure map belonged to him, but the Apaches, who a few years earlier had killed most of the men in Armijos during a raid, launched another attack. Kane had his work cut out for him: to protect the inhabitants of Armijos, who had come to look up to him, and to keep Foulard and his adversary from either escaping with the gold or slaughtering each other first. It was a tall order for Kane, and he wasn’t sure he could fill it.
